Stephens Softball Drops Two Games at Lincoln University

Jefferson City, Mo. - The Stars traveled to Jefferson City, Missouri Thursday for a non-conference series against NCAA Division II Lincoln University Blue Tigers. The Stars battled all day but ultimately fell short in both games of the doubleheader.

In game one, the Blue Tigers took advantage of some early Stars errors in the field scoring 3 early runs in the first. The stars battled throughout and were able to secure one run in the seventh inning on an RBI single to right field from Ivy Smart, driving Avery Throckmorton home.

Game two saw the Stars aiming for redemption, jumping out to an early 3-0 lead in the third inning with RBI's from Smart and Emma Hood. Smart was aggressive on the bases, eventually scoring the Star's third run stealing home.

The Blue Tigers fought back in the fourth scoring three runs of their own tying the game, but the Stars bounced right back into the lead in the top of the fifth with two more runs. Smart picked up her third RBI of the day scoring Ana. Throckmorton, while Lyndsey Hood scored on a Blue Tiger error (5-3). The Stars maintained their 5-3 lead until the bottom of the final inning where the Blue Tigers managed to score three runs (2 unearned) ultimately winning the game (6-5).

The Stars now stand at 0-5 for the season, while Lincoln University (Mo.) advances to 2-2.

The Stars are gearing up for their season home opener against Southwest Baptist University on Sunday, February 18th, following a schedule change due to cold weather. The game is set to kick off at 1 pm at Rock Bridge High School.
