Conway, Ark. - The Stars Basketball team notched a solid victory against AMC foe, Central Baptist College, bouncing back from a tough loss earlier in the week in Arkansas. The Stars had contributions from every player on the roster and were led by Syderah Farmer (12 pts, 8 reb, 3 blk), Mia Morel (10 pts, 3 stl, 3 ast), and Arthel Massaquoi (10 pts) in the victory.
Despite an early lead by the CBC Mustangs in the first quarter, the Stars quickly took control, thanks to Morel's sharpshooting and a strong offensive performance by Alayasia Douglas. Douglas scored 5 of the team's 18 points in the first quarter while contributing 1 steal and a rebound.
The team maintained their momentum into the second quarter, with Farmer's three-pointer igniting a dominant 29-point Stars run to end the half. Zaraya March scored 8 points and an incredible 4 steals in the second quarter run. The Stars were fueled by their bench in the scoring stretch, with 11 of their second-quarter points coming from Hostetler, Massaquoi, and Farmer. Stephens went into the locker room with a comfortable 48-18 halftime lead.
The third quarter saw a re-focused CBC squad, but the Stars maintained their lead heading into the final quarter (70-40). The Stars capitalized on the Mustangs' fourth-quarter turnovers (5), and Aushara Hostetler's consecutive three-pointers, maintaining a comfortable lead and eventually closing out the game with an 85-57 road victory.
With the win secured, the Stars look ahead to Senior Night, where they'll celebrate their seniors in a pregame ceremony. Seniors Marveen Ross, Alayasia Douglas, Zaraya March, and Arthel Massaquoi will be honored in the final regular season home game against Hannibal-LaGrange University on Thursday, Feb 22nd. Tip-off at 5:30 pm in Silverthorne Arena.
