Stars go 1-1 at Columbia College Invitational

Columbia, Mo. - On a beautiful Saturday morning, Stars Softball made their mark at the Columbia College Invitational in Columbia, Missouri. Facing off against two formidable opponents, Morningside University (Iowa) Mustangs and Briar Cliff University (Iowa) Chargers, the Stars showcased their determination on the field and secured a well-deserved victory against the Mustangs 13-9 and lost the second game against the Chargers 1-7.

The first matchup against Morningside University saw the Stars off to a blazing start, with Avery Throckmorton's impressive triple setting the tone early on. Joined by Ivy Smart's single, the Stars quickly seized a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Their momentum only intensified as Clara Pyle, Elise Kendrick, Emma Wood, Smart, and Mia Adriano contributed five more runs in the second inning, solidifying their victory. Despite a spirited effort from the Mustangs, who managed to put up five runs of their own, the Stars maintained their lead and emerged victorious with a final score of 13-9.

In the second game of the day, facing off against the Briar Cliff Chargers, the Stars found themselves in a tougher battle. Despite Av. Throckmorton's valiant efforts with a crucial single, the Chargers gained an early advantage, leading 2-0 in the first inning. Though the Stars fought back in the fourth inning, bringing home Kendrick, the Chargers ultimately regained control of the game, finishing with a commanding 7-1 victory.

Looking ahead, the Stars are gearing up for their next challenge as they prepare to take on the nationally ranked No. 4 Central Methodist University on March 20th. With their sights set on victory, the team is ready to showcase their talent once again at the Cox Softball Complex in Fayette, Missouri.
