Stephens Softball Falls to Missouri Baptist (RV) in Doubleheader

Columbia, Mo. - In a recent matchup between Stephens College Softball and Missouri Baptist University (RV), the Stars faced a tough challenge on their home turf at Rock Bridge High School struggling in both games, falling 0-13 in the first game and 8-16 in the second against the Spartans.

The Spartans seized control early in the first game, taking a commanding 5-0 lead in the first inning. Despite efforts from players like Elise Kendrick and Lyndsey Hood, the Stars couldn't overcome the Spartans' strong offense, ultimately succumbing to a 0-13 defeat in five innings.

In the second game, Stephens College showed some fight, with Avery Throckmorton and Ivy Smart contributing to an early lead. However, the Spartans quickly turned the tide, capitalizing on Stephens' errors to take a 5-2 lead in the third inning. A standout moment came when Av. Throckmorton made a crucial catch at the fence, momentarily shifting momentum in the Stars' favor. Despite a late surge with six runs in the sixth inning, the Stars fell short as the Spartans rallied with seven runs in the seventh, securing another win.

With these results, the Stars' overall record dropped to 11-9 (4-2 AMC), while the Spartans improved to 21-7 overall (6-0 AMC).

Looking ahead, Stephens College will take on the Trojans of Hannibal-LaGrange University on Saturday, Mar. 30, in a doubleheader. The event will also serve as a celebration for the eight Stars Softball seniors, with festivities beginning before the first game at 2 pm, followed by game two at 4 pm.
