Stars end Two Day Series with Clarke University 3-1

Columbia, Mo. - In day two of a 4 game series with Clarke University (4-4) in Columbia M0., the Stars (4-11) softball team ended the day 1-1 with a game one loss (3-7) and a game two win (5-1).  The Stars wrapped up the two-day series with 3 wins and only one loss to the Pride.

Game 1 saw Clarke University taking an early lead in the top of the first inning due to costly errors in the Stars infield, putting them ahead 2-0. However, the Stars fought back and regained the lead in the bottom of the fourth when Mariah Thibodeaux's hard-hit single brought in two runs, making it 3-2 in favor of the Stars. Clarke managed to turn the tide in the top of the fifth, capitalizing on a walk, two wild pitches, and a home run scoring four runs, and ultimately winning the game 7-3. Jordan Watkins took the loss for the Stars on the mound.

In the second game, the Stars gained momentum early as Gillian Hale's 3-RBI line drive double to center field gave Stephens a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. Clarke attempted to rally in the top of the fourth, scoring a run after a single base hit. However, Elise Kendrick's 2-run homerun into left-center field, solidified the Stars' lead and secured their victory with a final score of 5-1.  Stephens had 7 hits in the game, led by Lynsey Hood with two hits, and 5 RBI's from Hale and Kendrick.  The combined pitching efforts of Clara Pyle and Kendrick held the Pride to just 6 hits and one run scored in the Stars win.

Looking ahead, the Stars are scheduled to return to action on Friday, Mar. 7th, facing off against NCAA Division II Southwest Baptist in Bolivar, Mo. The game is set to commence at 2 pm.
