Columbia, Mo. - In a doubleheader showdown between the Stephens College Stars and the Columbia College Cougars, the action was intense in both games. The Stars went home with a significant win in game two after dropping game one of the doubleheader on the road.
In the first matchup, the Cougars took the lead early, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning with a well-placed single to right field. Despite a valiant effort from the Stars, the Cougars managed to tack on two more runs in the sixth inning, securing a 0-4 victory.Â
However, the Stars came roaring back in the second game. Elise Kendrick set the tone with a double to left field in the third inning, putting Stephens College on the scoreboard. Ivy Smart and Avery Throckmorton followed suit with line-drive doubles and a single respectively, each driving in a run to give the Stars a 4-0 lead. Mia Adriano's RBI groundout added another run to the tally, closing the inning at 5-0 in favor of the Stars.Â
The Cougars fought back in the fourth inning, scoring two runs, but the Stars remained resilient. Lyndsey Hood's single in the sixth inning extended their lead to 6-2. Despite a late surge from the Cougars, the Stars held on for a 6-4 victory in the second game.Â
With these results, Stephens College now holds a 15-27 overall record (8-10 AMC), while the Columbia College Cougars stand at 19-17 (10-8 AMC). Â
Looking ahead, Stephens College will hit the road to face Fontbonne University in Clayton on April 21st, with games slated to start at 1 pm and 3 pm.Â
