Columbia, Mo. - In a resumption of the game scheduled for April 7th, the Stars faced off against William Woods University Owls at Antimi Sports Complex in Columbia this afternoon. Unfortunately, the Stars fell short, losing 1-9 in the seventh inning before the game was called due to rain.
On April 7th, the Stars started strong in the first inning when Elise Kendrick doubled, putting them on the board first. The Stars held on to their lead until the top of the fourth when the Owls managed to tie the game. From there, the Owls steadily gained momentum, scoring two more runs through the completion of the top of the fifth inning. At that point the game was prematurely halted due to an umpire's decision, leaving it improperly forfeited.
Today, as play resumed in the bottom of the fifth, the Owls swiftly shut down the Stars' offense, securing three quick outs. The Owls surged ahead offensively, adding six more runs to their total before inclement weather, marked by lightning, forced a premature conclusion to the game.
Due to anticipated inclement weather, tomorrow's games against Crowley's Ridge College have been canceled. Despite this setback, the team eagerly anticipates Sunday's matches, aiming to surpass the program's all-time wins record. The Stars recently achieved a significant milestone by tying the program record for wins with their victory over Fontbonne University on April 21st. With just one more win, they will clinch the coveted title of the all-time season wins record holders.
With the conclusion of today's game, the AMC regular season draws to a close for the Stars. The team now shifts its focus to the upcoming AMC post-season tournament next week, determined to carry their momentum into this crucial phase of competition.
