Stephens College Softball Splits Doubleheader with Cottey College

Columbia, Mo. - In a doubleheader against Cottey College, Stephens College Softball had a mixed bag of results, ending the day with one win and one loss.  

The Stars showcased their strength in game one, securing a solid 3-0 victory. Avery Throckmorton kickstarted the game with a crucial single, setting the tone for the Stars' offense. Ivy Smart's impressive hit against the wind out of the park added another run, while Gillian Hale's timely single contributed to the lead. The Comets struggled to keep up, conceding the game to the Stars. 

Game two saw the Stars maintain their momentum early on, with Av. Throckmorton's triple extended their lead. However, the Comets fought back, capitalizing on an error to narrow the gap. In a tense finale, the Comets seized control in the seventh inning, clinching the win with two crucial runs. Despite the loss, the Stars put up a strong fight. 

With this result, the Stars' overall record stands at 14-20, with a conference record of 7-3 in the AMC. Meanwhile, the Comets improved to 21-15 overall, with a conference record of 5-3. 

Looking ahead, Stephens College prepares to take on William Woods University's Owls on April 7th, with game one scheduled for 2 pm, followed by game two at 4 pm.
