COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Stephens College soccer team played to a 2-2 draw against Southwestern Christian University in its first home game of the season.
The Stars and the Eagles were evenly matched for the first 12 minutes until Southwestern Christian netted the opening goal. However, the lead was short-lived, as Stephens midfielder Charlie Keefe, a freshman, scored her first goal of the season, assisted by Sydney Castelli, to level the score at 1-1. The rest of the first half saw both teams battling to maintain control, with neither side able to break the deadlock.
The second half began with Keefe striking again, this time assisted by Kylee Kratzer, to put the Stars ahead 2-1. Stephens looked to maintain their advantage, but the Eagles adjusted their tactics and managed to equalize at the 72-minute mark, bringing the score to 2-2.
Despite the Eagles outshooting the Stars 2-20, Stephens' goalkeeper Sofia Ramos made an impressive 10 saves to help secure the draw.
The Stars will continue their season at a neutral site against William Penn University (Iowa) on Sept. 2 at 7 p.m. at Southern Boone High School.
