GREENVILLE, Ill. — The Stephens College soccer team suffered a 0-4 loss to Greenville University on Saturday at Francis Field, as the Stars struggled to overcome a tough Panther defense and a significant rain delay early in the second half.
Stephens (1-4-2) managed just three shots, two of which were on goal, while Greenville (2-5-1) dominated with 20 shots in total.
Greenville took the lead in the 33rd minute with a goal that put the home side ahead 0-1. Despite a strong effort from Stars goalkeeper
Sofia Ramos, who made seven saves, Stephens went into halftime trailing by one.
Just after the second half kicked off, the weather caused a significant delay. When play resumed, Greenville quickly extended its lead, scoring in the 55th minute and again just three minutes later to take a commanding 0-3 advantage.
The Panthers capped off the scoring in the 80th minute, securing the 0-4 win. Greenville's goalkeeper made two saves to preserve the clean sheet, as Stephens struggled to generate offensive chances. The Stars' best opportunity came in the 26th minute when
Kylee Kratzer's shot was denied by the keeper.
Stephens will look to regroup in their next match on Wednesday, Sept. 25, against Illinois College at 7 p.m. at Battle High School.
