Stars Top UHSP in Commanding AMC Victory

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Stephens College Stars continued their strong AMC play, defeating the University of Health Sciences & Pharmacy (UHSP) 75-44 on Wednesday evening.

The Stars (9-7, 6-4 AMC) were led by LaiJanique Perry-Ellis, who tallied 22 points, three rebounds, and five assists. Chu Crockett recorded another double-double with 21 points and 13 rebounds making it her fourth straight game, while Taylor Norris chipped in seven points and two assists.

Stephens came out with intensity, building a 27-13 lead in the first quarter. Perry-Ellis set the tone early with a steal and a coast-to-coast layup. Crockett dominated inside, scoring nine points, including a putback layup after grabbing an offensive rebound. Aushara Hostetler hit two three-pointers late in the quarter to give the Stars momentum.

The Stars' defense shined in the second quarter, holding UHSP to just 12 points. Crockett added six points, highlighted by a mid-range jumper off a Taylor Norris assist. Perry-Ellis remained efficient, contributing eight points in the period. 

Stephens carried a 44-25 lead into halftime.

Both teams struggled offensively in the third quarter. The Stars managed just 10 points but maintained control of the game. 

Alonna Harvey-Williams provided a spark with a driving layup, while Perry-Ellis added four points to keep the Stars ahead 54-34 entering the final frame.

Stephens regained their offensive rhythm in the fourth quarter, outscoring UHSP 21-10. Crockett dominated the paint, scoring six points, and KaLynn Irey added a layup and a free throw to cap the victory.

The Stars return home to Silverthorne Arena on Jan. 18 to host Central Baptist College at 1 p.m.
