Columbia, MO – The Stephens College soccer team celebrated Senior Day in style on Sunday afternoon, earning a 5-4 victory over UHSP at Battle High School. The Stars improved to 5-10-1 overall and 2-3 in conference play behind an outstanding performance from forward Moriah Carnahan, who scored four of the team's five goals.
Prior to kickoff, Stephens honored its senior class for their leadership and contributions to the program. That energy carried over onto the field, as the Stars struck first in the eighth minute when Carnahan buried her first goal of the day. UHSP responded quickly to equalize and later took a 2-1 lead, but the Stars answered back when Addie Butler converted a penalty kick in the 23rd minute. Less than 10 minutes later, Carnahan connected again—this time assisted by Kylee Kratzer and Eastin Colyer—to give Stephens a 3-2 edge going into halftime.
Early in the second half, Carnahan completed her hat trick in the 49th minute off an assist from Lourdes Rocha Dias, extending the Stars' lead to 4-2. After UHSP cut the deficit to one, Carnahan found the back of the net again in the 81st minute off a pass from Ava Leininger to secure the 5-4 victory and cap a memorable Senior Day performance.
It was a memorable afternoon for the Stars, who celebrated their seniors and delivered an exciting home victory. Stephens will return to Battle High School on Wednesday for its final home match of the regular season against Hannibal-LaGrange University.
