Walnut Ridge, Ark. – The Stephens College soccer team put together a competitive effort on the road Saturday afternoon but came up just short in a 2-1 loss to Williams Baptist.
Williams Baptist opened the scoring in the 43rd minute, taking a 1-0 lead into halftime. The Stars battled back in the second half, finding the equalizer in the 83rd minute when Eastin Colyer finished a pass from Moriah Carnahan. The tie was brief, however, as the Eagles regained the advantage three minutes later and held on for the win.
Stephens goalkeeper Petra Brncova turned in a strong performance, collecting 12 saves against a heavy offensive attack. Colyer led the Stars with one goal on two shots, while Carnahan added an assist and two shots of her own.
With the result, Stephens moves to 2-8-1 on the season and 0-1 in conference play.
