Kansas City, MO - The Stephens College basketball team opened the 2025-26 season on the road Friday evening, falling 74-45 to Park University.
LaiJanique Perry-Ellis led the Stars with 16 points, shooting 6-of-14 from the field and 3-of-4 from the free-throw line. Taylor Teeple added six points and a team-high five rebounds, while Destinee Hunt provided a spark off the bench with eight points and five rebounds.
After a competitive first quarter that saw Stephens trail by just seven (19-12), Park used a strong second period to extend its lead before halftime. The Pirates shot 46 percent from the field in the second quarter and 61 percent in the third to build a comfortable advantage.
Stephens found some rhythm late, outscoring Park 16-15 in the fourth quarter behind efficient play from its reserves. The Stars totaled 36 rebounds and scored 19 second-chance points, showing energy on the offensive glass.
The Stars shot 26 percent from the field overall, while Park finished at 46 percent and made six three-pointers.
The Stars play again in Kansas City on Saturday, November 1st, with a 12:00 tip-off. They face #13 MidAmerica Nazarene University.Â
