Kansas City, MO - The Stephens College basketball team dropped a 73-41 decision to MidAmerica Nazarene on Saturday afternoon in non-conference action.
After a slow first quarter, the Stars settled in and showed improvement as the game progressed, outscoring their first-half total in both the third and fourth quarters.
LaiJanique Perry-Ellis led Stephens with eight points, three assists, and three rebounds, while Kelsey Crossan added seven points and five boards. Quimari Shelton provided a spark off the bench with seven points and four rebounds, and Alonna Harvey-Williams chipped in six points on perfect shooting.
As a team, Stephens shot 33 percent from the field and 86 percent from the free-throw line while scoring 28 points in the paint.
MidAmerica Nazarene was led by Kayanna Cranmer's 15 points and 13 points from Mary Lukert. The Pioneers shot 38 percent overall and converted 22 of 27 free throws.
The Stars (0-2) will return to action next week for their home opener on Monday, November 3rd against William Woods University. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30pm.Â
