Columbia, MO - Stephens turned in a strong all-around showing on Tuesday night, taking Evangel to overtime before falling 78–70 at Silverthorne Arena.
The Stars opened the game with energy on both ends, using efficient shooting and strong defensive possessions to build an 18–14 lead after the first quarter. Stephens continued its momentum in the second, holding Evangel to just six points while extending the margin to 34–20 at halftime.
Evangel responded out of the break, cutting into the lead with a 20-point third quarter. The Stars remained in front entering the fourth, but the Valor used a late push to pull even. Stephens forced overtime on a pair of free throws from Carson Dillard in the final seconds.
In the extra period, Evangel found its rhythm offensively while the Stars' shots went cold, allowing the visitors to pull away.
LaiJanique Perry-Ellis led Stephens with a standout performance, scoring 31 points while going 13-for-17 at the free-throw line. Sydney Reddin added 12 points, and Alonna Harvey-Williams and Lydia Babirye provided key minutes off the bench, combining for 10 rebounds and 10 points.
KaLynn Irey anchored the interior with a 16-rebound effort, including 11 on the defensive end, helping the Stars control possessions throughout regulation.
