Fulton, MO - Stephens College soccer battled for 90 minutes on Wednesday evening but ultimately dropped a 2-0 decision to Westminster at Kent & Judith Mueller Stadium.
The Stars kept the pressure on throughout the match, generating 13 total shots to Westminster's 12 and creating dangerous chances in both halves. Moriah Carnahan led the way with three attempts, while Charlie Keefe, Eastin Colyer, and Ava Leininger each put a shot on target. Stephens' attack ramped up in the second half, recording nine of its 13 shots after the break and earning a late corner kick that nearly resulted in a goal.
In goal, Petra Brncova turned in a strong performance with seven saves. The highlight came early in the second half when she denied Westminster's penalty kick attempt in the 49th minute, keeping the Stars within one goal. Brncova's stops gave Stephens opportunities to push forward, and the back line anchored by Carsyn Osborn, Addison Butler, and Felice Schreuder held off several Blue Jay counterattacks.
Westminster opened the scoring in the 14th minute and added its second goal in the 66th minute to seal the result.
The Stars will look to build on their second-half performance and convert their offensive chances as they prepare for their next matchup, this Sunday, September 14th against Ottawa University. The Stars will return home for a 6:00pm kick-off.Â
