Columbia, MO - The Stephens College soccer team generated plenty of chances on Sunday afternoon but ultimately fell 3-1 to Ottawa at home.
Ottawa opened the scoring in the 5th minute, taking an early 1-0 lead. Stephens responded with sustained pressure, earning five first-half corner kicks and producing several dangerous opportunities before Moriah Carnahan found the back of the net in the 32nd minute on an assist from Eastin Colyer. The goal pulled the Stars even heading into halftime.
Stephens maintained its offensive push in the second half, finishing the match with a 12-5 shot advantage and a 10-5 edge in corner kicks. Ottawa, however, was efficient in its chances, scoring in the 50th minute to retake the lead and adding an insurance goal in the 85th minute to seal the match.
Petra Brncova made one save in goal during the first half, and the back line turned away multiple Ottawa attacks to keep the Stars in the game. Colyer led the team with three shots on goal, while Carnahan put all four of her attempts on frame.
