Columbia, MO - Stephens College put together an exciting second-half comeback on Saturday afternoon, earning a 3-2 victory at home to improve to 2-7-1 on the season. The Stars showed composure and energy after falling behind by two goals, using a relentless push in the final 20 minutes to secure the win.
The first half was a tight battle, with Stephens creating quality chances but unable to find the back of the net. The Stars tallied six shots and two corner kicks in the opening 45 minutes while goalkeeper Sofia Ramos turned away four shots to keep the match scoreless heading into halftime.
Early in the second half, Stephens faced adversity when the visitors scored twice in quick succession to take a 2-0 lead. Rather than folding, the Stars responded with urgency. They pressed forward, moved the ball with pace, and quickly shifted momentum in their favor.
The breakthrough came in the 73rd minute when freshman forward Ava Leininger converted a pass from Moriah Carnahan to cut the deficit in half. Less than a minute later, Carnahan struck with the equalizer, finishing a return pass from Leininger to even the match at 2-2.
Stephens kept its foot on the gas and completed the comeback in the 82nd minute. Kylee Kratzer delivered the decisive goal off Carnahan's third assist of the match, giving the Stars their first lead of the afternoon. The defense and midfield stayed organized through the final whistle, shutting down late attacking opportunities and securing the victory.
The Stars finished with a 12-11 edge in shots and eight shots on goal. Ramos totaled seven saves in the win, and Carnahan led the attack with six shots and a hand in all three goals. The victory marked Stephens' second win of the season and showcased the team's ability to rally and finish strong in front of their home crowd.
