Walnut Ridge, AR - Stephens dropped a 78–64 decision to Williams Baptist on Thursday evening at the Southerland-Mabee Center after leading for much of the first half. The Stars came out strong offensively, shooting efficiently in the opening quarter to take a 22–17 lead. That momentum carried into the second quarter, where Stephens built an advantage that reached as many as 11 points and went into halftime up 34–27 after limiting Williams Baptist's scoring opportunities.
The game turned in the third quarter as Williams Baptist found its rhythm on offense and outscored Stephens 31–21. The Eagles' strong shooting and ability to get to the free throw line allowed them to take a slim lead heading into the final period. Stephens continued to compete but struggled to generate consistent offense in the fourth quarter, scoring nine points as Williams Baptist pulled away late.
Stephens had two players finish in double figures, with LaiJanique Perry-Ellis and Quimari Shelton each scoring 16 points. Destinee Hunt led the team on the boards with eight rebounds, while the Stars scored 38 points in the paint. Stephens showed control and efficiency early, and will look to carry those positives forward as conference play continues.
