Game 1: Stars 0, Pioneers 9
Stephens College fell 9-0 to MidAmerica Nazarene in game one on Monday afternoon at American Legion Field.
MidAmerica Nazarene got on the board in the top of the first inning after a double put a runner in scoring position and a single to center field brought home the first run of the game.
The Pioneers added to their lead in the third inning with a two-run home run to center field to make it 3-0. MidAmerica Nazarene pushed another run across in the fifth before breaking the game open in the sixth inning with five runs, highlighted by a three-run home run.
Stephens recorded three hits in the contest. Skylar Jacobs doubled in the fifth inning, Kendall Rhorer added a double in the fourth, and Kyndal Vincent collected a single and later stole second base.
The Stars had a scoring opportunity in the fourth inning when Rhorer doubled and Vincent singled to put runners in scoring position, but MidAmerica Nazarene worked out of the inning to keep Stephens off the board.
Elise Kendrick pitched six innings in the circle for Stephens and recorded one strikeout while facing 32 batters.
Game 2: Stars 2, Pioneers 3
Stephens College closed out the doubleheader against MidAmerica Nazarene with a 3–2 loss Monday afternoon at American Legion Field.
After three scoreless innings to open the game, MidAmerica Nazarene broke through in the fourth inning with a run to take a 1–0 lead. The Pioneers added two more runs in the fifth inning on a single that drove in a run and an error that allowed another runner to score, extending the lead to 3–0.
Stephens responded in the bottom of the sixth inning. The Stars plated two runs to cut the deficit to one, but were unable to complete the comeback in the final inning.
The Stars recorded nine hits in the contest. Kyndal Vincent collected a hit early in the game, while Leanna Mitts added a single later in the contest as Stephens continued to pressure the MidAmerica Nazarene defense throughout the game.
Katie Dennis started in the circle for Stephens and worked through multiple scoring threats while keeping the game within reach for the Stars.
Despite the loss, Stephens showed improvement at the plate in the second game of the doubleheader, nearly rallying late after trailing by three runs. MidAmerica Nazarene finished with nine hits, while Stephens totaled nine hits of their own in the 3–2 contest.
