Stars Rally from Two-Goal Deficit to Earn 3-3 Draw Against Dakota State on Senior Day

Columbia, MO - Stephens College soccer battled back from a two-goal deficit Saturday afternoon to earn a 3-3 draw against Dakota State University at Battle High School. Behind two goals from Amaura Austell and a late equalizer from Eastin Colyer, the Stars moved to 3-3-3 on the season.

Prior to the match, Stephens College Athletics celebrated Senior Day, recognizing four seniors for their dedication and contributions to the program: Carsyn Osborn, Felice Schreuder, Abi Leake and Petra Brncova.

Stephens struck first in the 11th minute when Austell found the back of the net to give the Stars an early 1-0 advantage. Dakota State responded less than two minutes later, leveling the match at 1-1 following an own goal. The Trojans added another goal in the 41st minute to take a 2-1 lead into halftime.

Dakota State extended its advantage early in the second half, scoring in the 54th minute to make it 3-1. However, Stephens wasted little time responding, as Austell netted her second goal of the afternoon in the 57th minute to bring the Stars back within one.

Trailing 3-2 with time winding down, Stephens continued to push offensively. Schreuder put an attempt on goal in the 84th minute before Colyer delivered the equalizer in the 85th minute, finding the back of the net to bring the match level at 3-3. Neither team found another goal in the closing minutes, resulting in the draw.

Austell led the Stars offensively with two goals on four shots, while Colyer added one goal on four attempts. Osborn contributed three shots, and Schreuder added one. Stephens finished the afternoon with 12 total shots, including four on goal, compared to Dakota State's seven attempts.

In goal, senior Petra Brncova played all 90 minutes for the Stars, recording three saves.

The draw marked Stephens' third tie of the season, as the Stars showed resilience in overcoming a two-goal second-half deficit to secure the result on Senior Day.
