COLUMBIA, Mo. – Stephens College soccer battled Southwestern Christian University to a 0-0 draw Saturday night at Battle Stadium. The Stars held off an undefeated Eagles squad through 90 minutes to move to 2-1-3 on the season.
Stephens created early opportunities with four corner kicks in the opening half. Addie Butler recorded the Stars' first shot in the 13th minute before Abi Leake added another opportunity later in the half. On the other end of the field, goalkeeper Petra Brncova made two saves late in the period to keep the match scoreless heading into halftime.
The Stars came out attacking to begin the second half. Amaura Austell recorded a shot less than a minute into the period before putting two attempts on goal in the 49th and 55th minutes. Stephens continued to generate chances, finishing the second half with five shots after recording two in the opening 45 minutes.
Southwestern Christian increased its pressure as the match progressed, but Brncova and the Stephens defense kept the Eagles off the board. A Southwestern Christian attempt hit the crossbar in the 71st minute, and Brncova came up with back-to-back saves in the 84th minute to preserve the scoreless tie.
Brncova finished the night with five saves to earn the clean sheet. Austell led the Stephens attack with four shots, including two on goal, while Butler added two shots and Leake recorded one. The Stars finished with seven shots and six corner kicks, while Southwestern Christian recorded 11 shots and seven corners.
After 90 scoreless minutes, the teams settled for the 0-0 draw as Stephens moved to 2-1-2 on the season. They continue their 5 game home stand this Wednesday against Governors State at 7:00pm.
