Stars Shoot Over Comets

Stars Shoot Over Comets

We finally got a Saturday game at home and the Stars had some energy this early afternoon. Getting her first start of the season was Celeste Anton who showed right away she was going to be dangerous from deep, hitting a three pointer within the opening minutes of the game. The Comets came out with pace as they kept the Stars in check and in fact had the lead going into the second quarter, 21-16. The Stars distributed their points all across the lineup with nine players getting minutes and six of them scoring.

Heading into the second quarter, Coach Andre Bell continued to get his roster minutes all while limiting Cottey College to 1-8 shooting and just six points in the quarter. Alayasia Douglas came in with pace that the Comets could not keep up with. Her constant drives to the cup made the Comets paranoid of the shooters on the wings that had wide open looks. This was the turning point for the Stars as they went into half time up, 33-27.

Going into the second half, the Stars kept pouring it on, outscoring the Comets 20-9. This time it was Marveen Ross leading the way with seven points as she earned a double double this game. She finished with 15 points,11 rebounds, and 4 assist. Allison Moore continued to find her lay to the basket and finished with a cool 12 points and 7 rebounds.

Coach Bell wanted to get his entire squad in the game today and we saw no less than 12 minutes for all his players and everyone scored. Huge team win for the Stars as they look forward to traveling to Central Baptist College in Conway, Arkansas in hopes of getting the fourth seed for the AMC tournament.
